Keto Really Works!
I was skinny during my teens and 20’s, but after I had my only child in my 30’s I gained significant weight which I’ve tried to lose ever since then. I’m also a type 2 diabetic. I’m 65 years old now and during my life, I’ve tried everything to lose weight and the only things I’ve found that work for me are the following:
- Atkins. I did the Atkins diet when I was younger (20’s) and it was easy for me to lose 5-10 pounds doing that. But that was over 40 years ago and my body is different now.
- The Whole 30. I did the Whole30 plan in 2016 and lost 30 pounds that year eating whole and select foods. Cutting out alcohol, grains, legumes, dairy, sugar, MSG, sulfites, and processed foods. This worked very well while I was doing this.
- Intermittent Fasting (IF). In 2017 I did IF and lost 20 pounds and managed to get off all my insulin injections after two months. Unfortunately, I was unable to keep fasting because I had to cook for others besides myself and it proved too hard for me to resist the foods I cooked for my family.
- Keto. This year, in 2019, I began the Metabolic Research Center (MRC) plan and it includes eating lower carb. I’ve now lost 25 pounds eating this way so far, with the support of the MRS staff, the eating plan, and their supplements. I fully believe that eating keto can help me to lose weight and also to reduce my insulin requirements. I am continuing this journey with the MRC plan and support.
In between trying to eat one of the above ways, I tend to fall back and eat the standard American diet, which makes me gain the weight back that I have to lose all over again. Yes, I have my excuses – I’m a food addict, I love bread, I have to cook for my family, my metabolism is slow, I inject insulins, I’m in a wheelchair and can’t exercise, and all the other excuses. But I really know that eating too many carbs (the Standard American Diet) and processed foods is the reason I stop losing weight.
Some Carbs are Harder than others to eliminate
I’ve found that reducing or eliminating bread is one of the hardest things for me to do. I am a bread and sandwich lover and my husband is also. I have tried lower-carb wraps and lettuce leaves which do work to eliminate bread carbs, but it is hard to keep those in stock, as my husband does the grocery shopping and he loves bread, especially whole grain (which has the most carbs). With me being in a wheelchair all the time, I’m mostly at home and shop online but not for fresh produce.
I found some information online recently that I’ll share with you, since bread might be your issue also.
KETO BREAD
I recently purchased some great information online on creating “keto bread” that is low in carbs. I’m hoping this will be a true help. Maybe you can try it too. Check out the keto Bread recipes I’ve found online.

20 years ago, if you wanted to slim down you were told to munch on boring foods like carrot sticks and rice cakes. It was torture. And as it turns out, completely wrong! Today smart health enthusiasts like yourself know that Keto is the best way to get a rockin’ body. Anyone who somehow didn’t know that would quickly learn by spending 10 minutes on Facebook and seeing how everyone raves about it. It’s an eater’s dream. Dare I say you can be a bit of a glutton and still smooth out your curves. Why doesn’t everyone who wants to look their best simply do it?
Good question.
Truth is, the old way of doing Keto was not only hard but boring. You were stuck eating an awful amount of meat and not much else. It gets worse… You also had to deal with side effects that mimicked flu-like symptoms. It was no picnic that’s for sure! Great news, you no longer have to suffer.

Hiya Shirley,
I absolutely loved hearing a bit about Keto. I’ve been looking into it quite a bit and have several friends using it. I’d love to hear more details from ya’ as you move along this path. Sure hope your Christmas is awesome!

Randy, thanks for your comment and reading my blog post. Keto works for me, as long as I stay compliant. The one thing nice is that the protein tends to keep hunger pains away and the fat makes food taste good and satisfying. Thanks again -Shirley
